Yankee stadium original groundbreaking Joeseph Yancey Track and Field sign

  
Park sign from the "new" Yankee stadium groundbreaking. A great piece of Yankee history. Joeseph Yancey track and field is the site of the present stadium. This sign was taken down and thrown in a garbage can by construction workers on the day the groundbreaking ceremony. The track and field has since been moved to where the old stadium was. I was at the groundbreaking working for a local TV station, August 16, 2006 in the Bronx NY, when George Steinbrenner, Gov Pataki, Mayor Bloomberg and company put the shovels in the ground.

After the ceremony, the construction company immediately started tearing down fences and park benches. I, and the reporter i was working with, witnessed a hard hat pull off this sign and throw in a garbage can. I asked, are you throwing that out?

" he said, "Yes, we are tearing it all down and throwing away everything I retrieved this Yankee gem from total destruction. It could be a museum piece, or just a awesome part of a Yankee collection. It's in the same condition it was when worker tore it off the fence.
